Rachel Bayer (she/her) is a PhD Researcher & Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholar in the School of Geography at University College Dublin (UCD). Centered in the areas of queer/sexualities geographies, her doctoral research focuses on asexual geographies - exploring ace people’s everyday experiences of space, and the spatialities of asexuality & compulsory sexuality in Ireland. Through this work, Rachel is also interested in the critical insights and transformative potentials that asexual perspectives can offer to queer understandings of space, sexuality, and identity.

Prior to her PhD, Rachel completed a Master’s in Critical Geographies at UCD where she explored ‘Ace Spaces’ in Ireland, and began to develop conceptualizations of the ‘allosexualization of space.’ She also holds a BA in Linguistics from the University of Michigan.

Rachel is originally from Ithaca, New York, and before moving to Ireland she spent time living in Montreal, Canada; Ann Arbor, Michigan; and Graz & Innsbruck, Austria.
